With over 15 years of experience facilitating youth mentoring matches, Mañe'lu, formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam, knows it is all about creating relationships. We focus on getting to know the child and the volunteer, their likes, dislikes and interests. Because we know that matching volunteers with children is just as important as the time you will spend with them.
Mentoring isn't a full time job, it should be considered fun time! Mentors are asked to spend a minimum of 2-4 hours a month with their mentee. One long hang out session or mini adventures during the month, it's up to you two! We do ask for a one year commitment of all of our mentors...24-48 hours a year minimum.
Community mentors and mentees, once matched, spend time together after school or on the weekends. Whatever fits both of your schedules. Beach days, reading or catching a local event are all fun things you could do together.
Site mentors are matched with mentees at a school or at one of the communities we work in. Site mentors will meet their mentees during school lunch, or during our after school community activities. Staff will always be on hand to bring fun activities and games for you and your mentee to play.
Come out to one of our special events and be matched with a child for the day! Mentors and mentees are matched for the day of the event and get to hang out, learn about each other and have fun with other mentors and mentees that have been matched for the day.
We would not be able to do what we do without the continued generous support of individuals like you. All donations stay on Guam and go directly towards programs and activities for our island's children and families.
